Description

A chilled hibiscus drink sweetened with sugar and finished with optional rum and mint.

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

hibiscus flowers, dried
1cup
tap water, divided
5cup
lime zest, grated
1.5tsp
granulated sugar
0.5cup
rum, optional
1cup
mint sprig, optional
1

Directions

1. Rinse flowers in cold water 2. In a large saucepan, combine 3 cups water, flowers and lime zest 3. Bring to a boil 4. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes 5. Remove from heat; let stand 15 minutes 6. Strain mixture, discarding flowers and zest; transfer to a large bowl 7. Add sugar and remaining water, stirring until sugar is dissolved 8. If desired, stir in rum 9. Refrigerate until cold 10. Add mint sprigs if desired
